Steam and vacuuming act where the tool reaches. Steam can kill life stages in the treated path; vacuuming physically removes accessible insects and debris. Neither automatically protects an untreated harbourage.

Whole-space and residual methods
Controlled heat aims to expose the treated space and its contents to lethal conditions for long enough, while residual insecticides or dusts aim to affect insects that cross treated placements later.
Both require method-specific preparation and competent application.
Verification is a method too
Monitoring and scheduled inspection do not kill the infestation by themselves, but they answer whether activity is changing and where.
